About this vehicle
1964 Volkswagen Transporter | Lincoln, Lincolnshire
A 1964 Volkswagen Transporter, the first-generation Type 2 known for its divided front windscreen, forward-set cab and air-cooled engine at the rear. A Type 2 of this era appears on the cover of Bob Dylan's The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, and the shape has stood for the 1960s ever since. This one is blue with a black interior, a plain pairing that lets the tall, upright body carry the frame. It has seats for four. It is left-hand drive: the driver sits on the kerb side, so the front passenger steps out on the road side, and the van gains a continental look on camera. The flat front and upright sides give advertising, fashion and editorial photographers a clear period silhouette with plenty of room in shot, and suit film and TV work set in the 1960s. The split screen reads quickly in music videos and at retro-themed events. A wedding or birthday arrival works equally well. The van is based in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.
