About this vehicle
1966 Volkswagen Splitscreen Camper | London
The Volkswagen Splitscreen is the early Type 2, an air-cooled, rear-engined van known for its divided windscreen and its forward-control cab, with the driver sitting over the front wheels. Its upright, friendly shape became tied to 1960s counterculture, and it still reads that way on screen. This one is Purple with a grey interior, a colour that lifts it against brick, hedgerow or a seafront. It has a 1500cc engine, seats five and is in good condition. It is left-hand drive: the driver sits on the kerb side, so the front passenger steps out into the road, and the van takes on a continental look in shot. In front of a camera, the tall body and split screen suit period advertising, 1960s-set film and TV, music videos, fashion shoots and event displays. The upright sides leave room in frame for the setting around it. Weddings and personal hires work well too. It is based in London.
