1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia | Hatton, Warwickshire

A 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, the Italian-styled Volkswagen with Beetle mechanics underneath. It is liked for its low, smooth body, shaped by hand, and for the simple air-cooled engine at the back. The 1967 model year brought front disc brakes and 12-volt electrics. This car is silver with a red interior, a clean pairing that holds its own against brick, greenery or a plain studio wall. Its 1500cc engine sits behind a 2+2 cabin that seats four. It is left-hand drive: the driver sits on the kerb side, so the front passenger steps out on the road side, and the car carries a continental look in shot. Its low, flowing shape and period Italian lines suit advertising, fashion and editorial shoots, and 1960s-set film and TV, with plenty of smooth bodywork for the camera. The silver and red colouring works in music videos and at events, where the car can sit on show. Weddings and personal hires get the same period charm. It is based in Hatton, Warwickshire.
