1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class | Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

A 1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the compact executive car that took over from the 190 in 1993. The model is known for restrained lines and a solid, well-built feel, and this one is a W202, the first generation. This car is black outside and black inside, so it reads as one dark, tidy shape. Its 1.8-litre petrol engine gives an unhurried drive, and it is in very good condition. The clean, upright body has little ornament, which keeps the eye on the location and the people around it. That plain, businesslike look suits 1990s film and TV, where the period is already in the bodywork. Photographers and fashion and editorial teams get a uniform dark surface that sits well against brick, glass or stone, and at events it makes a dignified arrival. It also works as a quiet wedding or special-occasion car. It is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
