About this vehicle
1963 Ford Zephyr 6 | London
A 1963 Ford Zephyr 6, the six-cylinder big saloon of Ford of Britain's early-1960s range. The Mk3 is known for a full-width grille that wraps in the headlamp surrounds, and for a smooth, torquey six. Z-Cars, the BBC police drama that began in 1962, used big Ford saloons, mainly Zephyrs, as patrol cars. This car is white with a brown interior, which sets the chrome grille and rear fins against clean paintwork. Under the bonnet is a 2553cc straight-six, and the cabin seats four. Its excellent condition means it stands up to close-up photography. The long, upright body gives period drama and 1960s London crime stories a car that looks right, and the Z-Cars connection adds a police-car link. White paintwork and a chrome front fill the frame in fashion, editorial and photography work, and events gain a distinctive saloon as a backdrop. Weddings and personal hires get a different choice from the usual bridal car. It is based in London.
