About this vehicle
1949 Chevrolet Station Wagon | Bisley, Surrey
Imported by the owner from Idaho, the car was recommissioned and driven in its as-found barn condition for several years before undergoing restoration work. The later 235 straight-six "Stovebolt" engine has been updated with a vintage dual-carburettor manifold and Fenton dual exhaust manifolds. All mechanical work and upgrades, including subtle lowering, the recent change to a later 700R4 automatic transmission and the fitting of disc brakes, have been carried out by the owner. The paintwork has been enhanced with wood-effect detailing by a renowned pinstriper and signwriter. The interior has been reupholstered in distressed leather with cloth inserts in an Apache-style motif, with help from a close friend and the owner's wife. The owner has also replaced the wood-panelled interior doors and sides with steam-bent ply. Future work will include a new headlining and interior roof detail, cherry-faced ply interior panelling, upgraded steering gear, and fuel injection to further improve fuel consumption, performance and driveability. As with all of the owner's cars, it remains an ongoing project, but one that will always retain a period look and feel.
