1977 Autobianchi A112 Elegant | Ash and Ash Vale, Surrey

The Autobianchi A112 Elegant is the better-trimmed version of Fiat's compact front-wheel-drive hatchback, a small Italian three-door that rivalled the Mini across the continent. It is liked for its neat size and its more comfortable cabin, with supportive seats and higher-grade trim than the standard A112. It was never sold officially in Britain, so it looks properly continental. This car is white with an orange interior, a bright, very 1970s pairing that gives a photographer strong contrast inside and out. It is left-hand drive: the driver sits on the kerb side and the front passenger steps out into the road, which adds to its European look. It has three doors and seats four. The compact shape and clean white paint suit period street scenes, advertising and fashion or editorial shoots, with the orange cabin adding colour in close-ups. Music videos and film or TV work set in 1970s Europe get a small, believable Italian car. A wedding or personal hire gets a characterful alternative to the usual choices. The car is based in Ash and Ash Vale, Hampshire.
