1988 Austin Mini Mayfair | Reading, Berkshire

The classic Mini is the small British saloon with its engine turned sideways and a wheel at each corner, a layout that gave it a roomy cabin and lively handling from a tiny footprint. This one is a 1988 Austin Mini Mayfair, from the later years of a run that ended in October 2000. Winding windows and concealed door hinges had been standard since 1969. This car is red with a cream interior, a warm, bright pairing that reads clearly on camera. Under the bonnet is a 1275cc engine, and the cabin seats four. The rounded body is short enough to leave plenty of the location visible around it. It suits photography, fashion and editorial shoots and advertising, where the red paint and cream trim give a clear colour focus. Film and television productions set in the 1980s get a period shape that fits the frame, and a music video can use its compact proportions in tight streets and car parks. For a wedding or a special day out it makes a charming arrival. The car is based in Reading, Berkshire.
