About this vehicle
1937 Standard Flying 20 V8 | Golborne, Cheshire
A 1937 Standard Flying 20 V8, a pre-war British saloon with a flowing fastback body and a broad waterfall grille. A V8 was an unusual choice for a British saloon of the period, and Standard positioned it against the Ford V8. Sir John Black, Standard's managing director, wanted the engine, which was developed with Coventry Climax and uses Qualcast castings. This car is green outside and in, and the interior remains close to original. Some remedial work is still to come on the exterior, and condition is very good overall. Its history runs through the Second World War, including a journey to Salzburg shortly before the Anschluss of 12 March 1938. The first owner served in RAF intelligence, with family ties to Churchill's post-war cabinet. The 1930s lines and green interior read well in period film and television work. Photography, advertising and music video can frame the fastback profile and waterfall grille, and events can use it for a period arrival. Weddings and personal hires get the same pre-war presence. The car is based in Golborne, Cheshire.
