About this vehicle
1984 Simson S51 | Newton Abbot, Devon
The Simson S51 is a small East German moped built at Suhl from 1980, with an air-cooled 50cc two-stroke engine. It is remembered for its simple, workmanlike build and for the custom scene that grew up around it. This car is the S51 N, the basic version, which the factory built without indicators or a battery. Finished in blue, this S51 is in excellent condition and carries two. Its compact frame and plain, utilitarian lines give a set or a still some period two-wheeler detail without crowding the shot. That suits film and TV scenes with an Eastern European setting, photography and editorial shoots where a small bike adds character, and music videos wanting something low-key. It also works well on event stands and displays. For a wedding or a personal hire, it adds a quirky touch to the day. The moped is based in Newton Abbot, Devon.
