About this vehicle
1926 Austin 12 Clifton | Bayton, Worcestershire
The Austin 12 Clifton is the open tourer body on Austin's Twelve, a practical four-cylinder family car of the early 1920s. Its long-stroke engine pulls well at low speeds. Val Biro's own 1926 Clifton became Gumdrop in his children's books. This car is blue outside and blue inside, one consistent colour that reads cleanly on camera. The tourer body seats four, and the open layout keeps a small group in clear view. Its upright lines put a 1920s look straight into the frame. Period photography, fashion and editorial work, and interwar-set film and television all make use of that open body and early British touring look. Heritage events suit it for the same reason. It can also carry a wedding party in vintage style. The car is based in Worcestershire.
